Tom Aardahl was born between a bronze age burial mound and a medieval fortress. He grew up in the heart of the old Viking landscape of Alfheim – an area rich in ancient fortresses, burial mounds, rune stones and ship graves. This historical heritage sparked a lifelong fascination with history and storytelling.
After a career in the military, merchant navy, offshore oil exploration and software development, he began writing full-time. With a deep understanding of strategy, tactics and the people who shaped history, he brings the past to life in his novels.
His two historical war series, Warriors of the North (1610-1721 AD) and Age of the Wolf (760-1100 AD), explore the wars, power struggles and personal sacrifices that shaped Scandinavia.
His first novel, The Cost of Honor (originally Generalens tapte ære, 2007), launched the Warriors of the North series and laid the foundation for a writing career that blends meticulous research with gripping storytelling. In 2025 there will be new books in both series.
For readers who enjoy Bernard Cornwell, Simon Scarrow and Conn Iggulden, Aardahl’s novels will offer an immersive historical experience.
